Apple Health Is Now a ChatGPT Plugin
Six months ago I said Apple Health had no LLM and needed a hyperscaler. Last week OpenAI answered by turning Apple into a checkbox in its onboarding flow.

On January 14, my subscriber Peter Frishauf asked a fair question in the comments: what about Apple Health? It already has FHIR-based EHR data plus Watch data plus everything else Apple hoovers up.
Here is what I answered, verbatim:
There is no LLM associated with Apple Health. So you’re limited to the features Apple offers right now, which is like 15 versus infinity. 🙂
You can’t easily upload your own medical files, like a pdf or doc.
The recent announcement about Gemini taking over Siri may be a sign that Google is collaborating with Apple on health and other initiatives. That potentially could be bigger than ChatGPT Health and Claude for Healthcare if they do it right.
Last week OpenAI launched Health in ChatGPT to every U.S. user. So let’s do the scorecard on my own call from six months ago. 😉
TL;DR:
1. Point 1 aged well. Apple still has no LLM in Health.
2. Point 2 aged well. You still can’t drop a pdf into Apple Health.
3. Apple’s Gemini bet was half right. Google took Siri, then shipped its own health coach without Apple.
4. Apple Health is now a data connector inside somebody else’s chatbot.
5. It’s still not about the AI. It’s about b.well. Same as January.
6. The part that didn’t make the press release.
7. Once your records enter ChatGPT, HIPAA is gone.
8. Ship it first. Maybe 🙄 the FDA notices later. That’s the actual story.
